Dave Earp and Maria Boerngen, both of Mattoon, were recognized for their “shining” example of leadership at Lake Land College. The two recently received college’s first annual Shine honor.
In its first year, the Shine honor is designed to recognize college employees or teams who display communication, caring, innovation, excellence and teamship (working together to create a whole greater than the sum of its parts).
Earp, print and mail services supervisor, was nominated by Kelly Allee, director of communications and creative services.
“I have always admired his ability to use words that express to people that we are all a part of a team, and we are all working together towards the same goal,” said Allee.
Allee also said that when Earp started working in the Print Shop, he began his mission of creating a positive, productive, trusting atmosphere.
Along with his work in the Print Shop, Earp also touches the lives of students as the assistant basketball coach.
Boerngen, agriculture business instructor, was nominated by Lisa Shumard-Shelton, media specialist, and an anonymous employee.
“Her passion and enthusiasm in the classroom are contagious,” said Shumard-Shelton. “She truly cares about students. She inspires her classes, and her fellow employees to work hard.”
Maria is also the director of the Honor’s Program and has begun leading an annual agriculture trip to Belize.
Others who were nominated for Shine were Jimmie Rosa, Neoga, groundskeeper; and Cheryl Roberts, Mattoon, divisional administrative assistant for social science; and Megan Nelson, Greenup, assistant to the director of communications & creative services.
Teams nominated were the LLC Police Officers - Jonathan Boyer, Windsor, Peter Lusk, Wheeler, and John Hampton, Charleston; the CDL Program – Gary Finch, Greenup, and Brandi White, Charleston; the Southwestern Correctional Facility Team – Peggy Monroe, Belleville, David Carr, New Athens, Marla Cook, Troy, Douglas Laumbattus, New Athens, Kenton Mershon, St. Louis, Richard Ninness, Collinsville, Michael Tuck, Belleville; and the Child Care Lab Team - Darlene Barlow, Lovington, Judy Lamb, Casey, Michelle McVaigh, Charleston, and Jennifer Neal, Hindsboro.
